19th JULY 1935

For some reason, it's been a rant week. Or at least a rant couple of days. So continuing with this 'rant' theme, I would like to talk/yell-at/bitch-about the horror that is parking fees.

I blame Carlton Magee, the creator of the Park-O-Meter, which was, on this day in 1935, first installed in a car park in Oklahoma City in the U.S of A.

What my main grievance is directed towards, is the inconstancy with which parking meters and parking fees are placed across car parks in the city, at shopping centre car parks, in the street, in country towns, anywhere. What annoys me is that there is no standard payment. One shopping centre is over priced, another has no fee at all and for that reason everyone parks there and there are never any car parks free! Everything about parking is annoying. You have to turn the steering wheel at just the right time to park correctly and if you miss! The consequences to pay are extravagant!

It all annoys me. Whilst I do have my license and can legally drive a car by myself (woot, responsibility!), I don't have a car and therefore do not drive often in the city. I catch public transport, mainly buses, and for that reason was not exposed to this horror of parking for a short period of time. But then I had my best friend stay with me for a week and I drove her car around and had to park places. And pay $16 for two hours. FOR TWO HOURS!! I could have used that money and bought food! And I love food!

All in all, what I'm wanting to get across is that parking sucks and anybody who says otherwise is clearly a nut job.

Or a parking meter attendant. But who'd want that job. Really.
